Local USA (localusa.app) is a free local directory of places and events. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.
What we collect
- Browsing: our server and our security provider (Cloudflare) process your IP address, browser type and pages visited to deliver the site, block bots and keep it secure. We count page views in aggregate; we do not use advertising trackers or sell data.
- Accounts and submissions: if you register, claim a listing or submit an event, we store the details you give us (name, email, listing or event details) so we can moderate and publish them.
- Contact form: messages you send us through the site are used only to reply.
- Location: “Near me” uses your device location only if you allow it, only in your browser, to find nearby cities. We do not store it.
Cookies
We use essential cookies for sign-in and security (WordPress and Cloudflare), and a random cookie to stop double counting when you tap “I’m going” or “Interested” on an event. We do not use advertising cookies.
Emails (CAN-SPAM)
We do not currently send any marketing or digest emails. If we start, it will be opt-in only (double opt-in), every email will identify us, include our physical postal address and a working one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribes will be honored within 10 business days, as required by the CAN-SPAM Act.
Children (COPPA)
Local USA is a family-friendly site but is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Map and listing data
Place data and map tiles © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Some event listings come from the City of Austin Open Data Portal (public domain).
Sharing, retention and your choices
We share data only with service providers needed to run the site (hosting and Cloudflare) or when required by law. We keep account and submission data while your account or listing is active. You can ask us to access, correct or delete your information at any time.
